Hello, I am looking for help with an engine replacement. i have a 2004 ranger with the 2.3l motor that is no longer running, a local mechanic found bent valves and a hole in piston three, says it would be cheaper to put in a used motor, i am needing to know what all year motors will be an direct fit in the truck, reason i ask is that i have found 3 motors but they are high mileage, one 2004 and 2- 2006 . they are VIN D 8th digit 4-140 motors, the 2007-2011 are also the same, will they fit? thanks in advance. also its an automatic 2wd.
This is based on the Hollander Interchange and they claim, "*All parts shown will fit the searched vehicle, even if they are different makes and/or models." So, even though you have engines that you think might work, you can check it against this web site. And, if you find that your two choices aren't options, you'll know which years you need to search for and you might even find something near you (you can sort results by location).
Note that you might have to strip the engine down to a longblock and swap over intake, exhaust manifold, etc. I know the Hollander Interchange will have notes to that effect for certain parts. I haven't used the web site above to look for an engine and don't know if it includes notes like that.
thanks for the help and site, i checked it out , they are showing that motors from 04-09 fit just find, it did say that things may have to be swapped from current motor to the new one. like intakes and things.
It's a good site. I've used it to find body parts. The smarter yards will take a picture of the decal on the door jamb that show paint code, axle code, etc. and include it with the other pictures of the car/truck. That way, I can find a fender, hood, etc, that can be swapped directly on and doesn't need to be painted.
