I always read that SOHC introduced into the Ranger in 2001... This engine came from 1997 (Explorer). But can there be some rare Ford Ranger models 1998 with SOHC?
The thing is i m going to buy one. Seller says there is injected 204 h.p 1998 Ranger and that year like there was carb engine with 160 h.p and inj 204 h.p..and he have 204 h.p... But it should be 152-160 h.p. this way... The problem there is not to many variations (i live not in USA) and if i want chek it i have to ride 400 miles by my boring mitsubishi with no soul))
Sorry for my eanglish)
I would opt for the OHV 4.0 in the earlier year models (they overlap), problems were common with early SOHCs.
No, the two engines never overlapped. (At least, not in the Ranger. Both engines were available simultaneously for a few years in the Explorer.)
Ranger:
4.0 OHV 1990-2000
4.0 SOHC 2001-2011
The 4.0 OHV was NEVER carbed. I think the seller just doesn't know what he's talking about. Wouldn't be the first time...
