got my finished rebuilt engine into saddles (motor mounts) and all hooked up, then put oil into pan, dripped out, I mean 1/2 qt. day, never attempted to start, yet, so since all motor is wired & water, fuel, exhaust hooked uop, is it possible to raise block, enough to get pan out between frame crossover, and block by jacking motor up 2-3 inches?? and slid pan out as rebuilders helper, he says, stripped out & split oil p an plug hole, need to braze new pan plug block into it??? help before starting
What engine?
Most stock engines for '65-'79 can be lifted up about 2-3 inches, which is enough to remove the pan.
You will need to lift the engine, slide 2x4 blocks under the mounts, and drop the oil pan onto the cross member.
Next, reach up and unbolt the oil pump, and drop it into the pan.
Work the pan out.
Installation is reverse.
When lifting the engine, watch for radiator hose leaks, fuel line leaks and most importantly: the accelerator cable wedging up against the firewall.
I have done this job without draining the coolant, but my hoses were new and a little longer, so they didn't need to stretch.
I almost broke the accelerator cable, though, so be careful. They aren't cheap, if you can find one.
before you go that route, you might try one of the slightly oversized self tapping replacement plugs and see if it fixes your problem. might save yourself alot of trouble.
