electronic ignition
okay this maybe a stupid question but have any of you ever heard of direct wiring the duraspark distributor to your coil for a cheap electric ignition, if so any advise or warnings against, the wires on the distributor are purpleish-brown orange and black?

I'm with Mike: Duraspark is an electronic ignition package, and with any electronic ignition package, you need a "brain" - in this case, it's mounted external to the distributor. You could swap to a non-electronic, points-style distributor if you really wanted to (but why?) ...
As for Duraspark vs HEI ... If you go with a quality (OEM/Motorcraft) ignition module, Duraspark is great. No reason to switch from the original. Aftermarket modules are of questionable quality, though ...
