I have a 1986 Ford IDI and I want to change it from a mechanical fuel pump to an Electric one. I need to know what the Ghp is and the Pressure. I heard its 7psi but I want to make sure. Also I need to know how to wire it all up. I was thinking about hooking it up to the Fuel cut off switch but not sure just yet.
Im also new to this site and bought my Truck for 300 bucks! lol.
Find a key on power source in the fuse box, tap in there. Use that to power a relay which gets its power from the fenderwell solenoid to power the fuel pump. 3-7psi and 30gph+
If you are going electric, spend the extra $ on a Facet pump. Cheaper ones are known to leave people stranded wishing they had left the mechanical pump on it. Read this for part nos. Electric Lift Pump (Holley?) correct part?
dura lift for the win.you can't beat the solid state design for durability/longevity.designed to lift fuel 10'! meaning no crawling under the truck to thaw it out,or empty the filter in freezing temps.kept nice and warm with easy access right up in the engine bay.stainless steel screen to cut down on filter replacements (insuring every 4 years is all you need to change the main fuel filter) a clear bowl to inspect for air/dirt in fuel.designed for diesel fuel.no frigging with bleeding the fuel system.no frigging with re-priming hard start/stall/hard start common idi syndrome.no more using the starter for anything other than simply starting the truck.imagine that!
they can't be beat.ford or international should have installed them on every idi (whoever disagrees with this statement is just wrong lol.) since they didn't,we can easily fix it.
