i have a 1968 f100 and i would love so much to not have to deal with the 240... i dont know if the transmission/bell housing would work with anything different... any ideas?

oh will personally I would go with a 360-390 swap with a C6 auto, but if you have a manual that would be a problem, unless you wanted to put in an after market floor shifter

302 would be easiest. I'd get a EFI engine from the late 80s early 90s

A warmed up 300 would be even easier though.

zanierd, You have what is commonly referred to as Small block pattern, that includes 240/300 6, 302/351W/351C V8. These are the more popular ones that share that pattern.

Today if I were thinking about a swap I would include 2010 & newer. The 4.2 V6 with OD is what I would look at. next would be the Ecoboost. My2

300 would be easier for sure, and you wouldn't have to change a whole lot for a 390. but 300 would be easy and you could go with a efi 300 if you wanted

You can get a 300 to do a lot. Good intake with 4barrel carb, cam, late model EFI exhaust manifold with a good exhaust. You will think you gained A whole nother engine compared to your stock anemic 240.

And yes, a later EFI engine is an option as well.

To put in a V8 you would need the frame mounts for a v8.Brackets for alt. if you have power steer. Accelerator linkage,Radiator.

By far the easiest is going to be a warmed up 300. It will use everything you have already so you won't have to get any more parts.

If you want somebody to educate you on the subject, talk to ford_six, and Trozei. They can tell you how do you build a good 300.
