Recommended tranny fluid

what is the recommended fluid for the 4100 i see use type V then don't use it. Just wondering what should be used other than type F.

Type F will kill a 4R100.

When the 4R100 was built MERCON was the proper fluid. In 2006, after the last 4R100 was built, Ford changed MERCON V to be compatible with the 4R100 and discontinued MERCON. MERCON V is now the right fluid.

Mark K - do you have any opinions on Motorcraft vs Super tech fluids as long as Mercon V is used? I have seen the super tech as low as $4.27 per at. Motorcraft around $6.20 per qt.

And today here I am putting Mobil 1 Synthetic in at $7.50 a quart.

Thanks for the suggestions and went and bought 4 gallons. Such a big diff from my gassers, there it was quarts now its in gallons lol....

i bought O'riely brand which says its mercon and the computer says recommended for my tranny so i hope i just didn't dump 3 1/2 gallons into it and now have to pull it out, just has me concerned
