truck starts and runs fine but.......when drivers door is closed it kills the truck and wont start unless door is open , if you disconnect jam switch it kills the truck . alarm sytem has been removed completely. any suggestions anyone run into this before? its a buddys truck havent seen it yet just been walking him through stuff and now out of ideas besides poss gem module shorted but its only a year old , i know that doesnt mean much these days lol . lets hear some ideas, thanks in advance
Alarm system removed? I have wiring diagrams for stock Superduties and Excursions, I have nothing on a do-it-yourself cable concoction. It sounds like the alarm was supposed to disable the truck by default. Disarming the alarm would make it actively sending an "OK to go" voltage to the PCM or fuel pump. Maybe it was an added safety feature that would kill the truck when you open the door.
Whatever the case... We can't see how it's wired, we can't pull on wires and chase them, and we won't know the color code of the alarm wires - unless you know the make and model of the alarm system that was pulled. Even with that information, we don't know if a professional installed it... or a stoner did.
We can give it a shot if you have the information on the old alarm. "Short" of that, we won't likely know what's going on without being there.
Is there a remote start on the truck? Some remote start systems can be wired so that the truck will not start/run if the door is open. And if the said system is wired backwards it can work in reverse of what is intended.
It sounds as though the truck is intended to be disabled if the drivers door is opened. But the polarity of the disable function is reversed.
Or you just have a hacked up wiring job from whomever installed the alarm system. (you never specified, but I'm assuming an aftermarket alarm system is what was removed? Not the factory system?)
I agree with Tugly's summary. There are lots of variables that are difficult to assess without knowing the details of the alarm system that was previously there and later removed.
