Nothing really, changed my IAC last fall, I believe it is just a breather, anyway turn it all you want and it changes nothing lol. Are you having a prob. with it? Explorers seem to need them replaced here and there.

I recently replaced my howling IAC and wondered if the **** was for fine adjustment or something.

There is no **** on an IAC valve. They can`t be tuned, just cleaned out from time to time. Or replaced .

I cleaned mine with a spray carb cleaner, let it dry, put it back on. Didn't help mine though still had to replace it.

Idle Air Control Valve

I just took mine off and finally cleaned it. I had a check engine light on with "ilde control malfunction" or something coming up as the code. That fixed the problem. Thanks to this forum!!!

Also never reset the hard stop set crew that stops your lever that your throttle cable pulls. I think that was half my problem. I had a MAS problem I did not know about, and I tried to make my idle go a little faster to compensate for the rough idle/ running of my truck. Bad Idea. It left the butterfly open a little bit, negating the use of the IAC. leave it be like the caution/warning sticker says on top of your throttle body.
