I am sorry Mods, and I am sure this will get scrapped or moved to general discussion at some point, but allow me the courtesy of asking some advice from the brotherhood.
I have a friend who has a 26ft. box truck and makes his living (2 young kids and a divorce ongoing) as a subcontractor delivering furniture for Bloomingdales and Macy's. He has a DT466, that has been losing power for a few weeks when going up hills. He had had a fuel leak just prior to this happening. He had a new fuel pump installed, to the tune of $1700!!. He only deals with 1 mechanic who is obviously bending him over royally in my opinion. The fuel pump full retail was $450, so $1200+ in labor is a bit much, even if he had to remove the seats to get to it . Is there anyone here who knows these engines and can help me trouble shoot this thing? If you need a better description of what has been going on, I can get it.
Trouble shoot it the same way you would a powerstroke, losing power up hill, the fuel pump was just replaced....., problem went away.....then came back.....its a box van.....my first guess would be an issue in the tank. I suspect the same issue ford chassis cans had with the crap in the tank plugging the pickup and filter.
Make sure the prescreen filter is also clean. They can be easily missed, looks like this. Should be located just to the back side of engine mounted fuel filter.
If this is the dt466e, then the fuel pump is mounted on the back of the hpop. What kind of a fuel filter does it have? Spin on or canister?
Check fuel pressure like a powerstroke, only the psi is lower, 45-55ish
If it's a international, There are no screens in the tank, the suction and return straws are just straight pipe.
