I've got a 1995 F150. 4.9L straight 6cyl. 220k miles. Manual transmission. This is the 3rd Ford I've owned. My first had 600k miles on it when I trade it. A 1977 F-100, I later owned a 1982 that I drove forever and had over 450k miles on it. This is the first starting problems besides a dead battery and the clutch safety switch I've ever had. I replaced that switch a couple of weeks ago. Now I'm getting a clunk from the relay on the fender. The battery is new too. I tried jumper cables, and swapped batteries with a friends truck. Mine started his no problem. I can let it roll down the hill I'm parked on and pop the clutch to start it. Obviously I'm over due for some starting problems. I would just get a new starter because at 20 years and 220k miles the starter might be living on borrowed time.
The thing that concerns me the most is a triangular plug mounted on the dash. Is this some kind of after market theft device or is it standard? Thanks in advance for any replies!
I have a 1995 Ford F150 XLT 5.8 automatic. I live in Minnesota. A couple of days ago I my truck ran fine. I put a full tank of gas in and then I parked it. I went out there 2 days later and it did not start. It cranks over and it pops off but does not want to start. What I replace Ignition coil, Distributor Cap/Rotor. Check: Fuel Pump is fine, Battery is fully charge. I try started fluid in the Air intake and did not work. I will be checking the Spark from coil wire to Ignition coil, Taking off the Distributor cap to see if the rotor is moving when I crank it, Checking the plugs and wires. Is there anything else I should check for if thes items come out ok?
Thanks
It was the small wire running from the fender mounted relay. I replaced it and no problems. Sorry I could reply sooner We've been panicking here in the south all week because it might snow.
I have some store credit at a parts store here. When the weather improves I'm going to replace the starter, and get both fuel tanks working. So I'll be asking for help then too.
