i have a 94 f350 duelly that i use to tow a goose neck rig on weekends. the heads are coming off this winter [needs a valve job only have 82k on motor but almost all towing miles] so with that in mind what can be done to improve performance without spending to much. i want to try to stay under 1500 for parts. i'm afraid if i make too much power the E4OD will need rebuilt [again]

Port and polish the heads and intake to make it breath and exhale better. Headers are always a good but expensive route.
i have seen several people recommend the fuel pressure reg. upgrade .I want to try this for sure.. any preferred manufactures and model # i should be using
If I remember right, in the Project MPG magazine article (forget which mag), the intake restrictor being cut didn't have a positive effect until lots of other mods were done. That by itself didn't do anything.

I believe its the BBK-1707 model. Made for Mustangs I think, but it works with our engine.

Yeah, that's why I said there was some debate about it. It didn't seem to hurt anything on my truck but who knows. It is a tiny couple of holes for a 7.5L
The biggest change in seat of the pants to me was a well designed 3" exhaust with Magnaflow cat and muffler. I have it turned out in front of the rear tire.
I love how the K&N snake oil people said that the hot underhood air was not a problem LOL
Classic read that I have read many times. Glad the magazine folks went back to the stock airbox, there is nothing wrong with it.

Awesome you mention this!!
So When I first got my ford I had one of my Techs at work put a steering box in it, while I worked on the wiring issues. well he removed the snorkel from the air box to the front of the truck. And I do have a cleanable air filter (Whatever brand Banks uses) Well when he was done he never reinstalled the snorkel, and it for some reason got put in a parts room.
Well last weekend I pulled the truck into the shop and was checking fluids and noticed the snorkel was gone. Found the snorkel and reinstalled. the next day I put 734 miles on it heading up about an hour north of seattle. The truck picked up .5 MPG as compared to the last trip I took down to California. which is pretty good seeing that the seattle trip had twice the traffic jams and my Average speed was higher. I am interested to see the MPG average after my next trip to Sacramento so I have similar driving conditions to compare
Just my first hand experience with keeping the Intake Air Temp down.
