Recently I have been hearing a brief thumping noise emanating from the front passenger wheel area whenever I turn. Although I have not jacked-up the front yet, I did grab the tie rod bar and was able to get a slight movement by using a twisting motion with my hand. Bad tie rod ends possible cause for the thumping noise? Tonight, I will raise the front and grab the tires and see if I get any play.

Check your lugnuts! My mother drove over 100 miles to my house after having tires put on her car and complained of a thumping noise when going around a LH curve at speed. When I checked there was only one lugnut tight out of 5.
Jack up the front end safely and grab a wheel at 12 and 6 and check for movement, same with 3 and 9, checking for wheel bearing play, and kingpin wear. Swing the whole front end back and forth from lock to lock and check for binding and ratcheting in the steering box, play in pitman arm, drag link, etc. Once bearings start to show perceptible wear it accelerates rapidly.
No where did you mention what the front end configuration might be so we must assume stock. Rotation of the tie rod is normal. Vertical or end motion is not normal. With the stock steering box, you will have play anywhere other than the straight ahead position.
Run your hand around the tire and see if there are any lumps or bumps

Along with this rotate the tires and drive and see if any difference. Had a vehicle that I bought cheap tires for and low and behold one tire had a bad side wall belt and everytime I turned I got a noise, went away when I rotated. I did go buy new tires at that point. I would do this before I started throwing money at it. Look for ripples or wave like areas in the sidewall.
Are you sure it's coming from the front end? I had an incident where I heard noises similar to a rubbing noise or grinding on turns. I could of sworn it was the front end and turned out to be the rear disc brakes.
Problem resolved! I enlisted the help of my daughter to sit in the passenger seat and listen while I backed the truck out and turned. When the noise happened she told me she flet something on the floorboard inder her feet. I pulled back the floor mat and saw the bolt that mounts the body to the frame. Sure enough when I put my ratchet to it, it was quite loose. Tightened it down to include the other loose one on the driver's side and the noise is history. I told her she has been hired as my assistant troubleshooter and mechanical assistant. Thanks for all the inputs. Steve
