turns out the problem was the cruise control deactivation switch recall which was never done on my truck... it did indeed burn up, Ford replaced it last week all is good again.
I had this same issue today. I'm not the most savvy person when it comes to electrical stuff but i needed my turn signal/brake lights to work. I research the wire diagrams didn't really understand them so i just got under the truck. The is a wire harness under my 2003 xlt f250 that the is towards the rear towards the floor of the bed behind the bumper that was routed to cross over the frame. i put some dielectric grease on it then pit electric tape on it now my lights work great!
You see the green(w/ brown strip) wire has been rubbed raw and now has exposed wires arcing on the frame.
