I have head gaskets blown engine is 03 or 04 bought the truck was supposedly an 07 got screwed but it was running good so I don't really know the actual mileage on the engine it's it worth it bulletproofing this engine or replace it? thanks
Leaking headgaskets are a common problem on these trucks and because of that they are also a common misdiagnosis. If you left out the details of troubleshooting for the sake of a short post, drop back in with some more info. It's hard for anyone to help much online without details. If you or a friend are mechanically inclined, and you're confident of the head gasket diagnosis, it would be a no-brainier to pull the heads and see what's up. If there's lots of wear in the bores any damage to Pistons, cracked heads etc. That could help decide which way to go.
If your suspicious of the head gasket diagnosis, post up what's been done so far and we'll try to help .
Thanx guys, just tryin to help . The 6.0 is such a cool, interesting engine. Just hate to see folks getting started with big problems right off the bat.
I only brought up the possibility of engine replacement in case he has his heads checked and finds out that they are both cracked, which happens. If he needs heads, gaskets, ARPs and he has a high mileage truck, it's sometimes more cost effetive in the long run to spend $4,895. on a long block
