Get a hydraulic cherry picker, those heads weigh a ton! It's a pretty big job. Send me a PM if you'd like a small book on the subject.

Look at the old head gasket carefully and be certain you find a bad spot. Cavation will not be fixed with a head gasket, and if the engine was ever severely overheated the heads could also have cracks. Take your time look at everything closely, most mechanics will look at your parts for free and give you some advice on what you have, good luck!

Good post farmnfly. I never even thought to ask why he is doing the head gaskets in the first place.

Mine turned out to be a pin hole I'am glad I looked the gaskets over good instead of putting it back together and not fixing it the right way.

I would check over all the lifters, push rods, rockers, valves, seals, and any thing elese thats pulled off, that can go bad. if you have many miles, i would rebuild the top end pulling the heads and your alredy half done
