Got everything back together and can't get the NSS to work. I tried putting a pin in the switch and setting it in place with transmission in neutral. That didn't work. Truck still starts in all positions of the switch. What am I doing wrong? There doesn't look like very much room to adjust the switch from side to side.
I'm not sure what part of this switch would be tested. I can move it all the way to one side and the back up lights come on. Hand moving the switch lever through the range and I get a start at what I think is all points. Kind of difficult laying on the floorboard and hitting start!

if I remember correctly, the nss has a 4 pin connector with 3 male and one female post...you should have continuity between the first 2 male connectors at 2 different points as you slide the switch...that would indicate where Park and Neutral would be....it should be open otherwise...
Thanks for your reply. I set the project aside for a few days due to health. I still don't understand why it starts in all positions. Looking back ten years ago when I accidentally broke off the actuating rod on the shift leaver the truck should not have started then but it did and does. Perhaps the switch itself is bad.
You're close to correct. I pulled the switch to have better access for continuity tests and spotted the first two wires, red green, have a jumper. I took off the jumper and the switch seems to work. I'll put it all back and go through the process again. Maybe there is some lite at the end of the tunnel!
