so i installed the high torque starter this weekend without te spacer put in the new heavey duty silenliond and new plugs cleaned all the connections and it started like a ford should when i was finished. no i haven't road tested her yet due to bad weather yesterday and i need to instal the heat sheild for the starter but, so far it's starting great.
I am glad your truck is now starting as it should, but the "high-torque" starter and "heavy duty" solenoid should not be necessary for that to happen. The starter your truck came with should have turned that engine over perfectly fine.
My own truck is running long tube headers with 14 degrees of timing and a carburetor, and it actually starts faster (stock Ford starter) than any of my fuel-injected vehicles ever have.
this is true but the original one was gone,,, my dumb *** replaced it when i was doing the rebuild of the 351w. the original engine was a 302 that was my mistake. all the ones that i was buying from the parts store and it wasn't autozone, napa, pep boys, orilies, rock auto or advance auto. it was another parts store that was suppose to be better than those others, they ended up getting one from summit racing.

What starter did you use? And solenoid? I have the same problem and having a hard time getting an Escort starter gear
i ended up getting a power master from summit racing and it works great as for the solenoid i got one from the local parts store but it was a heavy duty one. while i was under the truck i cleaned all the connections making sure they were good to go and i put my heat sheild back on the new starter. then i took it out for a test drive on the on april 27th and it was fine until i blew a head gasket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i guess i was having too much fun but that's the beauty of these old trucks you can have fun break them then do it all over again with no car payment!!

Amen to that. I love these older trucks and love not having a payment. I would rather spend $10k on this truck and know what I have than buy a used pickup for $10k and inherit more maintenance issues
this is so true because back when i got the truck in 2007 i had looked at a brand new one with all the bells & whistiles it would have cost me over $40K but with this truck so far i think i might have $5K into it but that's everything paint tires engine tranny. i did a lot myself and discounts
