Hello everyone, I just got a new project: 1997 F350 7.3 Powerstroke with a 5 speed tranny, dump. The guy said it just quit running on him going up the road. He put new sensors, comp. boxes and I don't know what else. It cranks over just fine but it will not run. I give it a shot of ether and it fires up and then shuts off. Please Help! Thanks, Denny
First of all, don't use ether if you are NOT disabling your glow plugs. Are you getting any smoke out the tailpipe when cranking? Do you have a wait to start light? Does the tach move when you are cranking? Also, check to see if you have fuel pressure when cranking.
Sorry my comp. went down last night. Yes my wait to start light comes on, tach does respond when cranking and no smoke coming out of tailpipe. I haven't checked the pressure at the fuel filter, I checked the oil pressure at the head with a gauge and it reads after cranking between 2000 and 3000. Can't figure out why it wouldn't start, that's why I used ether and it fired right up using the ether. Thanks, Denny
I would start with the basics. How much fuel in the tank your drawing from and fuel pressure while cranking. Also does someone have the no start flow chart. I can't seem to find it now.
thanks moose machine, the gauge shows about half a tank. i took fuel filter out and bowl was full,i drained it and turned the key on and it filled the bowl back up,probably in about 1 minute or so, and stuck my finger in it and it seemed luke warm.
I would still check the pressure. Just because the bowl fills doesn't mean the regulator is doing its job. The only question is where? I'm assuming that he has retained the fuel bowl and factory pressure regulator but is there a schreader valve on the fuel system still?
The Schrader valve is on the FPR on the side of the fuel bowl. It looks like a tire valve. You can use a cheap tire gauge to check the pressure while cranking.
its the same good imfo from both i printed them out havent had achance to check fuel pressure yet,but what should it be, and what to look for next.thanks to both for all your help.
