Great, if you have e fuel that's one mod you don't have to do. Much better then stock mechanical fuel pump.
Yes, but the next question is did the P.O. install true electric fuel, or just a band aid inline fuel pump.
If you still have the fuel bowl, you don' have true electric fuel. The mechanical pump is a 2 stage pump, low pressure to the filter, and back to the pump for high pressure to the injectors. The inline low pressure pump will fill the fuel bowl, but will not run the high pressure to the injectors.
Thanks for the correction Tom, I thought about my answer after and realized he was talking about a 'fuel bowl' filling up. Defiantly something to check out.
thanks guys, yes i am sorry not to explain my self yesterday i wosnt sure whats what on these diesel trucks learning as i go. yes it is a extra in line fuel pump do not know anything about it, but he said he put one in.
My gut is telling me the mechanical pump died, and the P.O. installed an electric pump thinking this would give it fuel. If you remove the electric pump and check the fuel pressure while cranking and don't get 20 lbs, the mechanical pump has given up the ghost, and needs replaced. It will run on either, so this says it is not getting fuel to the injectors. The question is why.
There are no pumps in the tanks on these trucks. In a stock set-up the pump sucks fuel up to the engine. You should be able to disconnect the in-line electric pump, stick the hose in a can and see if it builds fuel pressure.
