Shift lever problem

'01 F250, 4X4, 5.4. Wouldn't go into park and the lever became sloppy. Thought my cable broke but released both ends and it's good. The bracket, under the dash that the cable attaches to was loose. When I tried to tighten it, one screw just spun. The piece that the bracket attaches to broke so only one screw is holding the bracket. I adjusted the cable so it shifts but no park but now I have to replace that part which looks like the end of the shift lever shaft. Anyone else do this? What's it called? Looks like the steering column gets dropped to access. Any help will be appreciated.

Yes steering column gets partially dropped. How soon are you going to do this project? There are many steps to this project, will help as much as I can.

Going to the dealer to gets parts tomorrow. Doing ASAP. I adjusted the cable so that I have D & R but no park. Thinking back I had this same problem with my '96 F150. If I remember correctly, wasn't that big of a project. Thanks.
