I think I'll go with motorcraft parts all the way. I figure that's what the truck came with and they worked fine for 21 years. I'm ok with paying a little more for the parts since I'm doing it myself and my labor is free.
I looked at the ingnition coil again and the wire separated and just fell out. I pushed it back in and the truck started fine but it will definitely be replaced.
As far as the old plugs....should I give them a quick shot of pb blaster? And my manual lists the plug torque range from 72-120 in lbs. what should I go with and how many foot pounds is that?
After this I'll be servicing front and rear differentials, so stay tuned....
I did use a MSD cap, rotor, and coil on my 5.8L, primarily because I couldn't get the Motorcrafts at the time and found the MSD stuff with a coupon that made them cheaper than the Motorcrafts...MSD didnt give me any noticeable performance gains, but they work well.

Just like inches to feet. 72 inch pounds is 6ft lbs. 120in is 10ft lbs
The important thing is to use quality replacement components. I wouldn't get spooled up about how many ohms per foot, tho modern ignition wires are a consumable, don't wait 21 years!
Well, I was doing some pre tune-up recon to make sure all plugs would come out, which they did easily, I broke this thin white tube. I'm thinking it is a vacuum tube.
How do I fix it, what part do I need?
Is it just bulk tube that I can patch with or is it a specific part#?
have fun with the tune up, and as for the motorcraft, vs MSD, vs who ever else, ive use just about any I can get my hands on, (my mums Kia Optima was a mixture of just about all branded parts) and ive had good luck with all and bad with all, mainly I tend to stick with MSD, Motorcraft, or Autolight and one other, its a bright yellow colour branded item called yellow jacket I think...I know its sold at Pepboys and im trying to look up a name! I have had the most luck with those for my Ford!! right now my truck is useing the NAPA branded higher end spark plugs and wires and a borgwarner iggy coil and i have had 0 issues out of her so far and they have been in for about a year now (all parts) as I don't drive her as often any more (sadly)
Well, I did it! Took 4 hours and went well. When I disconnected the ignition coil from the distributor some white powder fell off, guess it was time to change it...
thenew wires weren't marked with the cylinder number like the old ones so I just picked the we wire that was as close to the original length.
Now to change the oil and front and rear differential...(see new thread for help please).
