I was thinking about swapping out the interior lights for blue L.E.D.s as mentioned in the common mods thread and wanted to know if you could still read by the Blue light anyone have any experience with these ? Love the color with my Blue Flame truck but the older I get the more light I need.
Mine dim down also. I can read fine with these as your eyes adjust to the light. However...if you happen to look at some bright headlights coming your way or I guess any bright/intense light outside the truck then it will take a minute for your eyes to re-adjust. Blue LEDs also wash out certain colors..mainly reds so if your trying to read a map it might be a chore to see any red writing.
Try to get the highest wattage with the most smd's that will fit. I recently swapped out my map lights (Ford-W5W) that had 5 smd 5050 T10 led's, to 9 smd 5050 T10's that just barely fit because of the extra length but are substantially brighter so I'm going to keep them in.
Prices seem to be relatively cheaper now so don't be afraid to experiment.
Only bulbs on my 2014 that aren't LED are the fogs, stoplight/blinkers and headlights...everything else has been changed. Only reason I haven't changed the lower stop/blinkers is you need to wire up Hyper-flash bypass resistors to make them blink correctly and I didn't feel like messing with the extra work.
Hey Sundowner. I'm with you on the LED's. Love the look but need decent light for aging eyes. I have installed a fair bit of LED's on my truck but need to add the interiors like Spectech7248 has done. Nice looking rig dude! I'm going to have to find a install video on the LED puddle lamps!

good luck new ones are a sealed unit that it seems you pull off wires and plug them on new unit theres no bulb to replace at least on the tow mirrors I have.

Hopefully I wont have any issues with my 2010 FX4. So by "new ones" what year do you refer to? I'd like to install the puddle lights without any complications. Thanks for your input!

Yup...puddle lights are sealed but it is relatively easy to disassemble them and replace the bulbs. I found a video on YouTube that showed how and it was fairly simple. Used his hacksaw technique and it worked well and maybe took 30 mins total for both lights start to finish.
Just be careful when cutting as you only want to remove seal around the joint where the lens meets body, you only want to remove the black plastic so cut a little and check to see how deep it is. Once you do it you get a feel for how deep it's going and can tell when to stop and rotate the light. You don't have to remove all of it...just the majority of it so you can pry the lens off. Then use crazy glue or sealant to put back together after you replace the bulb.
Finally got around to putting the L.E.D. bulbs in I only replaced the front map lights and the rear dome . Love the look bright enough to read by. Thanks for all the replies this is a great forum !
