Parking Brake Shoe replacement

<hr style="color:#D1D1E1; background-color:#D1D1E1" size="1"> Hi,
I have a 1999 F250 power stroke diesel, 4 wheel disc brakes and ABS. I want to replace the parking brake shoes as the pins that hold the shoes to the back plate have rusted off. My question is do i need to pull the axel shaft to do this job or is there enough room after taking the brake disk off to get in there to do the job? The truck manual is telling me the axel shaft, bearings, and seal must all come out to gain access.

Thanks for any advice. Jerry

Yes, the hub needs to come off. Not much working room behind the wheel stud flange.

I put new shoes on mine this last fall with just pulling the brakes and all that junk off, I did not remove the axle shaft, or bearings of any sort. It was not the most fun I ever had, but it was doable. The only "special" tool I used was a long needle nose pliers with the nose bent. I believe it was a harbor freight deal for a few bucks, but I am sure you can find them elsewhere.

As mentioned, it's aggravating, but doable.
