welcome to FTE.
yes you can use a non turbo injector pump on a turbo engine.
but remember, you are buying a used part with no history, and it most likely will be as is no warranty.

you can buy a rebuilt pump for under $ 600 from one of the better companies out there.
stay away from pensicola diesel products though, their reputation gas gone in the garbage can the past few years.
same with DCP diesel .

you simply adjust fuel delivery rates for turbo or non turbo with the fuel screw in the side of the pump like he was doing when the doofus turned the key.

The friend was a doofus for turning the key. But who PUT (or LEFT) the key in the cylinder while this level of engine work was being done?

the later injector pumps used on the turbo engines had another adjustment on it, but the old pumps will work just as good.

an n/a ip in good condition can still well over fuel a turbo idi if you max out the screw.an intercooler is required to burn all the n/a ip has to offer without fogging for mosquitoes and playing russian roulette with your EGT gauge lol (and keeping sensible mpg's.)

cool, not a performance junky, learning some new stuff here, know some maint stuff that will cause some guys to say "huh" though, when you run the maint on a couple million worth you learn some things to make it last longer, mostly about product performance (i.e. oils, greases, additives, filters etc) can't go tweekin them or the lever jerkers will tear them up
