I was just curious if you guys with these truck beds that have the real pretty glass like reflections ever haul anything in your trucks or are they for show only ?

No tricks, was really curious if those types of finish hold up for maybe a little light hauling (beer cooler and lawn chair) or if they are absolutely never used.

If it were mine, I'd have a mat to throw down before throwing anything inside. There was a lot of work went into those boards.

I have the shiny boards in my F-1 and when I want to haul something I throw some flat card board or some old rubber floor mats down to protect a bit.
The finish has held up pretty well so far...

I built my own out of wormy maple and coated it with 3 layers of 100% tung oil from the Real Milk company. It has a slight sheen to it.

Bed Wood kit for 48-50 F-1

Greetings.
I did not use a kit from LMC but the one I got looks very similar. I think the hardest part was removing the old steel bed.
I had to make all the square holes in the SS bed strips which required a bit of planning to get them lined up in the center of each strip and parallel to the bed and also across the bed.
Other then that the rest was just finishing the boards and trimming the SS bed strips for length. The boards did not require them to be trimmed to fit.
Definitely a lot of work but well worth it.
Hope this helps a bit.

Hey Ken,
Our bed kit came from Midwest Early Ford.
We've since added tie downs & every time my son borrows
the truck the wood get's a little more "used" looking. That's ok - it's a truck.

I used oak from lumberyard and ripped them down, walnut stain and layers n layers of plucid. I'm happy with the results and had many comments.
