I'm looking for a replacement bed because my bed is about ready to fall off. I guess thats what I get for buying a plow truck. anyway, ive been looking into aluminum flatbeds because I dont want to deal with the rust. does anyone have experience with switching the beds? I was even thinking about making one myself to save some money. I was hoping to keep my gooseneck hitch and maybe add a 5th wheel. please post pictures of your flatbed obs trucks if you have any!
It's definitely a nice flatbed he made. I guess one reason I would do it, is you could make it for whatever purpose you intend for it. Make it unique. Honestly I would have never thought about using tool boxes as sides. I Wish he would have continued his thread and showed bumper and lights.
One thing I would say is, using stainless steel fasteners to aluminum. Personally I would have welded it all together. We'll see in another couple of years what the salt will do to it.
That is a nice looking bed! I'm pretty inexperienced with welding so welding aluminum is not something I am looking to attempt any time soon, especially on my truck. Maybe i'll PM him and ask a few questions about it. trying to get a new bed on a budget is not easy!

Yes it is! Aluminum beds are expensive! They are nice but, man do they cost a lot.

Well it's something to build up to, that and I've seen 2GA aluminum diamond plate go for under 200$ for a 4'x10' sheet. Obviously shipping would kill you, but local pickup wouldn't be bad. figure 3 sheets to have enough plate to do the bed, sides, and tail.

I'm not saying make welding aluminum your first welding experience. But I assume that you have done it though, and had varied results?
My son in law just put this one on his truck not long ago. The bed and boxes on both sides were over $4000.
that looks great! I wish my truck looked that nice! I havent welded before but my uncle has experience and has a sheet metal shop so a few guys have experience too.
