Hitch fail

Just wondering if you guys had any problems installing a hitch on your truck before. Today I tried putting one on my 92 with the regular step bumper and could get things lined up right. The hitch I pulled of a 96 regular cab. The hitch is wide enough but when i pull it all the towards the rear of the truck with the first hole on the side of the rivet closes to the bumper it sits on the edge of the rivet and the front of the hitch hits the bumper. The only piece of info I have on the hitch is that its a valley industries. Can anyone help me figure this out?

Not sure what is occuring, could you post a photo of what is not lining up with the hitch? 92 to 96 years should be the same for the rear fames.

I noticed your truck only has 23K miles. I am curious on how the Odometer displays it. Does is show like "023xxx.x" or just "23xxx.x" ?

The hitch hits the bumper and the rivet if I try to line it up with the predrilled holes in the frame...

And your in luck I just hit 30k and took a picture...All original.

The bumper might need to be adjusted or raised slightly. I've had to loosen the bolts and push the bumper up a bit.

I had to drill all new holes when mounting the receiver on my truck.

A lot of hitches come with some thick spacers that are used to make the hitch clear those kinds of obstacles.

This doesn't make much sense. when I pulled it off the 96 the front holes of the were on the side of the rivet closest to the bumper and it didn't hit it. but on my truck it hits and it doesn't clear the rivets. If I put it on the other side of the rivet it sits to far back. I'm thinking of just getting rid of it and buy a new one. Since its a valley I cant find any install instructions on this particular hitch to make sure I'm not missing something

What he said, or the hitch has holes to go around the rivets.

Since EVERY truck has the rear crossmember riveted in, you are missing something

I had the same Valley hitch on two 1993 F150 Lightnings and then my old 1992 F350. It's a well made hitch. Since the bumpers on all three trucks were very different I mounted it in different locations on each truck. I ended up drilling out the rivets on the rear crossmember of the 1992 F350 so I could get the hitch to fit flush with the rear bumper. Not a big deal.

Ok today I finally took another look at this hitch situation and if i sit it on the edge of the rivet it lines up with the factory holes and the is about a quarter inch of space between the the frame and hitch is which is where I am assuming one of the spacers goes there. Should I be worried about the hitch not sitting flush on the frame and sitting on the rivet?

Stole a pic from the web cus im lazy but the red is where the hitch hits and the yellow is the hole it lines up with.

It should NOT sit on the rivet. You NEED the spacers

I have the spacers just wanted to make sure that even with the spacers if its still on the rivet is it ok. The way this mounts has me uneasy.

on my 92, which is a standard cab longbed with 4.9 and e40d there was a dent, or bubble in the hitch where the rivets where on the hitch so no spacers needed, however there were no factory holes to line up on so i could drill the 8 holes where they needed to be and didnt have to line everything up, its worth noting that my bumper was sagged and bent from my mother trying to pull small trees out with it while i was gone and it still fit with a decent amount of wiggle room. but your bumper mount looks a lot different than mine does as well as the whole bumper. my spare tire holder had been cut off so i am not sure if that would have given me problems or not either. has the truck had anything else on it before? i dont recall the 92 OR the 94 having holes drilled in the frame, i had to drill them all myself but its been a few years so my memory may have faded slightly lol
