Ok so i have a 1992 f350 with the 460 big block and a standard 5 speed transmission. It seems to idle high around 1000-1100 rpms. Its not hurting anything but it just bothers me. I have tried lowering the idle on the throttlebody but didnt help also i have cleaned the IAC valve didnt work either. So my question is what should it idle at and what else can i try to do to lower the rpms? By the way the motor is bone stock. Only mods is cutting the "air horns" on the air intake hoese to reduce restiction. (The truck has always idled high for the 5-6 months i have owned it)
I would check out vac lines, maybe a gasket on the throttle body or intake is leaking, had a 5.0 with a leaking intake gasket that idled high, drove me bonkers until I found it. My 97 HD 460 zf5 idled between 600-800 rpm.
Spray some carb cleaner around some vac lines and intake while running and see if it revs up.
Thanks for the welcome. I had herd it could be vac lines but didnt know of a good way to check so i will try the carb cleaner some time soon. About the check engin light this is my first truck and i just bought it not to long ago and in my eagerness to buy it after seeing how nice it was i didnt relize the check engine light has burned out or most likly been removed. I havent had it anywhere for someone to run diagnostics on it but it runs very strong and good (other than the high idle) and have had no problems with it.

The Equis 45 (sp?) can be had for about 30 bucks at your local oriellys that will run the codes for you on your OBD1.
Also a good Oriellys guy that knows what he is doing can run the codes. I did it all the time when I worked for Oriellys, their OBII reader has an attachment for OBD1.

Not a problem bud, where about are you from?
Thanks i will have to make a trip to orileys and have the codes run. I am from sheffield Pa its about 1 hour from lake erie if that helps. The truck was a pretty rare find for my area of Pa because of the body. It is pretty rare to find a truck that old around here that hasnt been claimed by the road salt and doesnt want an insane amount of $$ for it.

I have family ib Port Allegeny, my little cousin has 1967 Mercury Cougar.
You should be able to find that code reader on Amazon.com for cheap.
If I were you I'd just buy one, I plan on buying an OBDII reader to keep in my truck just in case she goes down or acting funny.

I need a manual to tell you what it is exactly but it is a valve located just infront of the throttle body directly under the iac valve it is about 2 in long and has a capped hose on the top. I belive it must just need a gasket or gasket sealer around it
