Headliner

Im in Orlando attending the misses PhD commencement.

On the way home Im stopping into NPD Ocala for a few items.

Does my 64 F100 use the 65/66 headliner or the 61-63 headliner?

They list 61-64 as being the same but I thought the 61-63 cab was shorter than the 64-66 cab.

61-66 will fit your truck it's just a matter of whether you want the 4 or2 piece headliner. 4 piece covers around the back window and side behind your head. My favorite choice.

I bought the 4 piece.

My understanding is that the later trucks had a higher cab height above the door.

Would a vinyl headliner be difficult to install by a professional?

Not by professionals, that's what they do. The difficult part is paying for it.
With one done by a professionals, you can get crazy with designs or keep it simple. Just remember the more you do the more it costs. Here's a picture of mine. Done to resemble the hood lines.

Neither.

They (NPD) lists 61-64 as being the same, but they are not the same according to FoMoCo.
1961/63 Uni's (body styles 66A Standard Cabs & 66B Custom Cabs) use different headliners than conventional cabs (body styles 81A Standard Cabs & 81B Custom Cabs).

All these headliners were beige. 66B & 81B Custom Cabs came with perforated headliners, 66A & 81A Standard Cabs did not.

Only 1961/63 Uni 66B Custom Cabs with the wrap around rear window came with the R/L side pieces. The other 1961/63's did not.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1964 headliner is 1964 only. One reason is, FoMoCo changed the color from 1961/63's beige to 1964's grey. All 1964's have a 4 piece headliner.

81B Custom Cabs came with a perforated headliner, 81A Standard Cabs did not.

If not doing a period correct restoration, you can use 1965/66 headliners which are also 4 pieces.

81B Custom Cabs & Rangers have a perforated headliner, 81A Standard Cabs did not.

The upper sections are two pieces, a large center section, a smaller rear section that the dome lights fits to.

5 clips (C5TZ-8152140-A) are required to retain the rear section to the front section.

The R & L repro side pieces come flat (as did the originals). Line 'em up, then by placing your hand in the center, push the pieces into position.

But to install the upper rear section and the R/L side pieces properly, you have to remove the back glass.

I am not impressed with NPD.

The headliner is actually a DC headliner, so NPD is just a reseller.

I asked for the 4 piece perforated headliner, they were out of stock.

The counter person said they had the non-perforated headliner in stock.

Although not what I wanted, I was at the counter and it is a freight item, so I decided to go ahead and buy the non-perforated one instead.

I get home and open the box and it is the 2 piece headliner.

Now, some of this is my fault, I should have known that the non-perforated headliner only comes as a 2 piece. However, as I asked for a 4 piece headliner the counter person should have told me that the non-perforated headliner only comes as a 2 piece.

Its not that big a deal, I have a 64 CC without a headliner, so a 2 piece is better than what I have now. At least the cab was repainted and all the paint matches so only the informed will know it is not correct, and Bill lives in CA so little chance he will stumble across it!

I see three problems at NPD:

1. Many of their catalog descriptions are lacking detail.

2. They sell so many parts for so many different vehicles that the sales stall cant possibly have adequate expertise on the entire product line.

3. There were not enough people working. The person who waits on customers also answers the phone and pulls parts. They were working their butts off trying to give good customer service but they were overwhelmed and I felt like I was being a PITA because I walked in without part numbers.

Sounds just like Napa, Advance, O'Reily, and every other big auto parts store I have been in....
