I hauled the skidloader to the farm, and after I got it unloaded I went to park the trailer and I don't have reverse. It was working earlier, was able to hook up to the trailer, everything worked fine. In reverse, it doesn't move, put it in neutral and it will drive forward. All other selections(drive,2, 1) drive forward. Checked for codes and have nothing.
Would something have been able to get out of alignment in the linkage from the gear selection lever to the transmission?
Has anybody had this happen??
Any info would be great, will probably be working on it tomorrow afternoon.
Have you tried moving the gear shift around to see if you can find reverse? I've read where a loose gear shift lever will cause a no start because the truck thinks it's not in park. If you crawl under the dash I believe there are 2 torx screws that hold the shift lever in place. Try tightening those up. Also check your fluid.
In these junk transmission's reverse is the only gear that is completely mechanically operated. It is either a piece of the linkage that has come loose, or out of alignment somewhere or there are broken things inside. If I were you I would head straight to a transmission shop or figure on having it towed very soon. Usually the forward gears screw up first, so having reverse go first may mean it is something simple, like low fluid or some kind of linkage problem..
very recently I had a screw fall out from under the dash on part of the linkage and mine acted just like you describe. See if you can find a screw rolling around the floor someplace. It was easy to get back in place and everything works fine again. I can't exactly describe what it looks like under the dash but just take a look and wiggle the shifter linkage you should see what I'm talking about.

Something like this is much more likely as I just about stated up above. Both of my transmission failure it's been the forward gears going first with reverse being the last to quit. You just may be lucky here. Were you backing a trailer up an incline? Seems to me I read a thread a few years ago with someone have trouble backing a trailer up a hill only.
We did some calling around to a few different shops and from the sounds of it I welded two of the clutch packs together, that's why it goes forward in neutral and doesn't move in reverse. So now I'm in the process of looking for a new transmission. I know BTS is highly reccommended, but Black Widow Diesel is a lot closer for me and they offer SunCoast transmissions.
Wondering what people's thoughts are on those trannys?
Information that I have says that the 4R70W had a problem with that particular gear but that hasn't been a problem in the 4R100. Good advice though as that might have been a cheap fix if that was all that was wrong.
