Ignition Stuck on.
That second small terminal is for the ignition system, which an IDI does not have. Both my '85 and '86 have a single terminal relay, but if I look up replacement parts the parts sources show the two terminal relays.
Yet, Darrell does have a wire on his second terminal and I found a picture of another member's truck that's the same way.
On another note, I did find Standard replacement relays, if their quality is sill what it used to be it would be a good replacement relay:

Of course it's a 2 terminal, but it will still work for those of us with a single.
the difference between the stancor relay and a standard starter relay is that the stancor does not case ground, you need to hook ground and power to the two small terminals to energize the high current contacts.
i don't see why it would not work though.
the stancor in my 02 glow plug circuit has been there for around 7 years now.
On the IDI the battery voltage does not pass through the starter relay. The battery feed goes straight from the batteries to the starter. On the momentary side of the relay ONLY the smaller wire to the solenoid is present.
Applying what we know about Ford wiring and relays to the IDI doesn't work.
So the OP probably had his relay go bad because he does have battery voltage pass through it whilst cranking and the dual batteries and heavy draw of the starter soldered the contacts together.
