Had a lot of problems with my 1975, 390 burning the green tab ignition box. I like the msd 6t. I got it used on ebay. Easy to wire, and the truck starts every time.
So does anybody know what problems can happen from using this on my F150?
You will love the upgrade. I have run mine trouble free for a while now. I have a new harness and 3g alternator. I am guess that you have upgraded the alt as well. If you want Dale, you can open the gap up a bit on those plus too. You really want a difference, index the plugs when you put them back in.
I made the mistake of not going MSD in the first place. I am very glad that I did. The only reservation I have is that I went with a mechanical advance. I may go vacuum in the future but I have no problems with it so far.
MSD is a decent system, their 6 Series Ignitions are "entry level" but better performing than stock by far.
I run a full Jacobs setup and after a lot of tuning/testing my plugs are happiest at a 0.090" gap, this is a HUGE gap and the ignition system handles a gap of 0.115" without issue but it burns the Electrode off the plugs too fast for my liking and I currently don't have the money to go to a Iridium plug that would survive that big of gap and allow me to push it even farther.
I had an MSD 6A that I swapped on my truck just to test all it's functions before I sold it and it could Barely keep the truck running as it was not able to support the rest of my System, that gives you a slight idea how well I've put mine together and also brings us to the fact that it is a SYSTEM with which you should make sure all the parts in the system work in harmony instead of installing things that are designed for different parameters.
