upgrading ignition system....

k.... i have given it a-lot of thought and i will be upgrading the ignition system on my truck. i have a 95 f150 with the 4.9. so far the list is:

MSD P/N 6200 6A Ignition Control
MSD P/N 8227 Blaster TFI Coil
MSD P/N 8874 Harness
MSD P/N 31179 8.5mm Super Conductor Wire Set
Autolite copper plugs.

Now my only question is, what distributor should i get. I looked and MSD doesnt make one for the 4.9 ( atleast from what i could find ). Since i am upgrading everything else... any recommendations on a distributor to go with the rest of my soon to be performance ignition system??

Why do you need a new distributors?

Throw a new Motorcraft cap & rotor on it and call it a day. Also, why not Motorcraft plugs?

Seams like all that stuff on a stock engine is a waste of money unless you just want to out it on. Other that that, If your not putting more fuel or more internals in he engine, your not going to make difference. Just opinion

I use the MSD 6al ignition & blaster coil cap & wires but use the stock distributor & it works fine...Thats on a 302 HO...Not sure how much you will gain on a stock 4.9...Lew

Skip the MSD 6A spark box, they are a waste of both time and money for your truck, and only add complications.

There is a much better coil you should use, for about $20 more then the MSD, the Pertronix #60104. When it comes to coils the important number is Voltage potental,(stock is 40k) the MSD is 48k but the pertronix is 60k, about as high as it gets for regular street stuff. It's not plug and play like the 8227 is, but not that hard to install, and well worth it.

Like wise there is a better plug wire choice. For over $20 less then the MSD 8.5, the Taylor Thundervolt 8.2 is a higher quality wire. Taylor Cable, Spark Plug Wire Sets - summitracing.com
These wires are less expensive, have the same 50ohm rating, come pre assembled(or not, your choice), 3 color choices, I have never killed a set, I recommend them to everyone and put them in everything.

Autolite, or motrcraft plugs, doesn't matter, I think they even come out of the same factory.

No need or reason to change the distributor, yours works great, no aftermarket unit would work any better.

Looks like Accel makes the best cap/rotor for your truck, part #8230

That's it all you need, about $150 and a few hours and you'll have a great ignition setup, it doesn't get any better without going way further, everything else isn't worth doing.

A word on plugs, I don't know off the top of my head what your factory plug gap is, but with these parts you can and should go bigger. The point of this stuff is to get more power to the plug, so you will have a larger more powerfull spark to better light the fires. To take advantage of this open up the plug gap to say .065 to start. Or even better Side-gap them like in this vid, http://www.instructables.com/id/Save...ide-Gapping-S/

X100 on the taylor spark plug wires. had them on my dads old truck and had an engine fire on the right side of the engine. almost everything was fried but the spark plug wires were still intact just a little whitened from the fire.I let the truck cool off for a half hour and it fired right back up. If it wasnt for those plug wires i know it wouldnt have started. they started that truck with 170k miles on an extremely tired 302 that overheated on a daily basis and used as much oil as it did gas, after we all thought it was toasted from the fire i know i can depend on them plug wires.
