MSD Ignitions

I got a 78 4x4 351M that has give me alot of the same ignition problems I've seen many of y'all have had. Instead of spending $130 on a Motorcraft ign. module and hoping it fixes it, I'm thinking about spending the same money for a MSD-5 control box, MSD wire harness, and a Blaster 2 coil to run with my stock distributor. With the wire harness I can do away with the old Ford ignition module all together (according to my local speed shop). Anyone else running MSD ignition system. What do y'all think? Any special problems I should be aware of? Thanks alot.

I run a MSD 6AL on mine and love it. Have had zero problems. I have left the motorcraft ign. module on the truck just in case the MSD decides to quit working, I can unplug the MSD and plug the stock ign. system up in less than 30 sec. to get out of trouble. -Ed

I have a 6AL and love it. The only time it ever gave up on me was when I put it under water and I can't fault MSD for that. I don't know about the 5's but I assume they're pretty comparable in quality. I will say that for MOST people's applications a properly setup Ford ignition should work just fine and cost you less $$. But again I'm really happy with MSD.
