Just got done working on it some. I crawled underneath, removed the heat shield, bashed my head off the frame to be sure I was in the proper mood, and finally got the ICP unhooked. Hopped in, turned the key and... no start. It cranks exactly the same as it did before.
I decided to drain the water separator while its in the shop. Of course, its already stripped out... Any techniques on how to get it out? My only idea is to buy the new plug and have it handy, and sacrifice an allen wrench by JB Welding it to the plug
The only code it threw was ICP voltage, probably because its still unplugged lol
Its running... A case of, part ICP failure and part operator error...
I plugged in my scan tool, turned the key on and waited for it to associate with my phone. While I waited, the glow plugs clicked away and fuel pump ran. After a little while, the fuel pump stopped running. Then it dawned on me... I didn't let it run long enough after I swapped fuel filters. I hit they key and it fired right up... I felt like an idiot. I guess when its all said and done, I did figure out the ICP is bad lol
How long can I run it with the ICP unplugged? I would really like to take it out for dinner tonight but don't want to push it. Itll be about 80 miles by the time I pick up my honey and get there and back.
Well I feel better now. It wasn't my fault after all.
I was cruising down the highway and the X was running just fine. Stopped to load up my trailer and noticed a slight miss at idle. I shut it off, loaded my trailer, and it wouldn't restart. Same symptoms as before: turns over fine and chugs every second or so.
Got it home, and my brother and dad both swear its got too much water in the fuel, thus the reason why its not running. So I dumped a bottle of Diesel 911 in it and tried starting it to cycle the fuel. Behold, after running the starter a few times it fires and runs. Still with the slight miss. So I hold the throttle at 1100 rpms to get the fuel moving.
Pull out the ol scan gauge and run diagnostics on it. Heres what we got:
P0278 - Cylinder 6 Contribution/Balance
P0460 - Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit
P1000 - OBD System Readiness Test Not Complete
P2269 - Water in Fuel Condition
P2285 - ICP Sensor Low Circuit (because its still unplugged)
All but 1 are fuel related. Iv also got a red explanation point next to Misfire Monitoring
Just curious as to why you think your icp sensor is bad...that info was givin to you as a test to see if it was your icp sensor or not. You really need to plug everything back in and give us those values requested before. Clear the codes and see if any come back, for all we know your icp sensor may be fine. I would work on draining that water separator and wouldn't hurt to perform a bubble test also.
I thought it was bad because it showed symptoms of a bad ICP. The truck will run regardless if its plugged in. I could plug it in and the ICP code should go away but it shouldn't affect the others. I am going to still plug it in as its obviously not the problem.
Im going to the shop now to see about removing the fuel/water drain plug and hopefully that code will go away too.
I replugged the ICP in and am now down to one code: P0460 - Fuel Level Sensor A Circuit. Even the water in fuel light went out...for now. I tried looking up some parameters like some of you asked for. The only one I could seem to find was ICP pressure, which hovered between 818-822 psi.
You should check your fuel pressure next. Theres a plug on the housing where the fuel pressure spring is. You need to take the plug out and put a fitting in it and hook a gauge to it. 0-100 psi gauge will do fine. Its an o-ring thread fitting, not pipe. Seems weird that itll start then miss and not start. Almost like theres air entering the fuel system somewhere.
