ended up ordering a new head unit, so I will run the camera to that instead of the mirror.
now to see if I actually have the factory wiring I can tap into or run new wires from the camera all the way to the head unit. if that is the case, what would be the best place to route the wires inside?
Well I messed with it tonight and put the green and white to the inside wore of the R a and the brown and violet wire to
The outside wire to the new head unit and wouldn't show anything I can go to the aux in and it shows up just not when u go to reverse just goes to a blank screen ! Any idea why ? I feel like I'm closer lol
I just did this exact same thing. Alpine ILX-007 head unit and tailgate camera from CameraSource (270 bucks). I just ran the new harness along the frame up through the cab and hooked it to an up fitter switch. You can also use the center pin wire on the trailer harness if you want it to come on with reverse.
Running along the frame isn't a huge deal. I wasn't able to find a plug and play harness either that was already there from the factory.
so you flip the upfitter switch and the camera automatically pops up on the screen regardless of gear selection?, or you still have to be in reverse and flip the switch?
also where did you enter the cab with the camera-source harness?

Hi Andy.
I flip the upfitter switch and the camera comes on. I don't have to be in reverse. Nice to be able to switch it on at will to check on the hitch or whatever.
As for coming into the cab... There are 2 ways. Just below the big factory wiring harness that comes through the firewall on the driver side, there is a small grommet that you can use. Since I already used this for my stereo amp power, I went to the big factory wiring harness.
If you look at it from the engine side, there is a little nipple on the top of it. You can clip that off and route wires through there. Nice and clean. That is where my camera wires are going. Then I just zip tied it along some other factory harnesses under the dash up into the camera in on my head unit.
so did the harness come with a rca or did u have to make one work ? also how many wires did u have to connect to the stereo I have the switches in my truck also would like to do the same thing

Hi There.
Yeah. The camera I got from CameraSource has a nice pre wired loomed harness. Pretty simple. Red, for power (went to up fitter switch). Black for ground. Then an RCA that went to the video on the head unit.
well got into my camera wires coming off are black, black white stripe , white green stripe, purple grey stripe , brown purple stripe so now what I know black is ground , black and white isn't used , white green inner part of rca , brown and violet outside part of rca so the purple with grey stripe has to go to the reverse right
