While we are looking at the fuel pump, I pulled the fuel plate. I scribed around the stock, (I assume), location so I could start with the new one there,(benchmark), make adjustments later in small increments so I can note the change if any.

New on the left, Stock on the right

Scribe marks

New plate install in same location

Painted block back on the stand and tape removed

All exposed holes,(painted), chased with tap again

Also took the time to shim worm gear closer to driven gear on my engine stand, works much better now.

This is where it gets kinda ify...I was thinking my local hardware store had the bolts for timing case and oil filter/cooler housing, (mini head flanged bolts), but it turns out they only had 1 size and it was too small. I really wanted to get the block assembled today so I had to come up with something else, on a day when nothing around here is open. I decided to give one of the old blacksmith remedies a try. Used motor oil and a little,(a lot), heat. Had to go to work (20 miles each way) and bead blast my bolts, then give them a wipe with acetone. Then on to the grill at 350* for 15 minutes

A little extra heat from a propane torch then dunk in the oil.

Its not really that hot, Only burns after another touch with the torch, let it burn out then reheat and back in the oil. 3-5 times for acceptable color.

First two were for the AFC housing. These two didn't get it but the rest got one time over with scotch brite. Seems reasonably durable but time will tell if they rust.

I use synthetic oil in everything around here, may not have taken so long with used dino oil.

Still trying to get the short block together at this point, next up, old cam bushing removed:

The old one had just very minor wear showing.

And the new one,

Wont fit!!! I guess its for an oversize application, (spun bearing?)

Nice work on that injection pump, she looks like new. As far as your bolts go, they are unubtainium in the right head. The that's why I just had them stripped and cad plated. It would've cost a mint to replace them for sure.

Wish there was a place like that around here. Specialty stuff is prob at least two hour drive one way.

And I got extremely lucky with that as well. Cad plating is a dying industry, it's less common then chrome plating even. It sucks because the stuff is a million times more corotion resistant then chrome. The shop that's 10 min down the road is the only one within 400 miles of here.

Turned out nice, what were you using as a cleaner on the IP?

You just reminded me that I need to invest in a blasting cabinet.

Started out using B-12 Chemtool, spray it on, wait forever, scrub scrub scrub. Weather was yucky outside and it was late. After work the next day I went by an picked up some of this:

The nozzle stops up pretty regular but it will get paint off really quick and doesn't hurt aluminum

Blasting cabinet, sweet! Previous workplace has a nice large one with vacuum/filter. May try to acquire if they shut down.

Todays small update, old piston cooling jets out, new ones in

The old ones looked fine but hey, I paid for the new ones so...
NOTE: Be sure to take a look thru these when installing, two of mine had loose plastic pieces inside them (obstruction)
