I'm wondering, is it possible to read out the signal values from the TPMS sensors through OBD? I know the Original Ford scanner thing can do it, as I've seen them do it.
I have an OBDLink MX bluetooth adapter, I haven't tried the ScanXL windows software for it yet due to the price of it, would that work? It doesn't show up in the Android OBD apps I have, but that doesn't really surprise me as those are more generic and doesn't have the enhanced Ford package that ScanXL comes with. I've also seen FoCom scanner tool online for about 400 bucks including shipping, but not sure if I'm willing to part with that sum of money...
Any idea? It would be for diagnostic purposes to verify that the sensors really are accurate, and of course for any future projects such as diagnosing my inop cruise control once I get to that....
Yeah, it's probably not something under the OBD standard, but I was looking at the Ford guy here at the dealer a few months ago when I asked him why I had a TPMS sensor fault, and he connected the Ford VCM to it through the OBD port and checked the signals from them and only got a reading from one, the other three was dead and needed replacement. I bought a set of 4 new OEMs on ebay for about the same price as the dealer wanted per sensor, but I haven't installed them yet as I'm planning to do that when I replace the tires. After I did the job on the side curtain airbag, the TPMS Sensor fail warning disappeared, which surprised me. I wonder if the 3 dead sensors came back to life or something, which is why I wanted to check their signals.
So is it only the Ford dealer thing that can read stuff like that? They are really really expensive so that's way out of my budget, but if there's other scanner tools that can read more in dept Ford specific stuff than the standard OBD, I might be interested in those if they come at a reasonable price for the home mechanic..

Yes, their equipment can do many things that us regular guys can only dream of doing. For example, they can raise or lower the air suspension, tell which door switch is stuck closed, read the tranny shift points, etc., etc.
I've also seen these chinese knock-off Ford VCM scanners on ebay for 150-200 bucks with free shipping, but not sure how reliable or good these things really are..
