I had the 56 F250 out front with a for sale sign , and of course when someone stopped to look at it , The fuel pump was leaking out the vent hole . As it was the pump that was on the truck when I got it and the truck was last registered in 92 , I think ethanol has eaten the diaphragm . So 1 new fuel pump later , it is good to go . I have moved it around the yard for about a week , no problem . Yesterday I start for town and a couple of miles down the road it starves for fuel . After nursing it home , I started checking things out this morning . First I unhook the line from the tank , that hooks to a flex line that goes to the pump [ good flow ] next I put a pressure gauge on the outlet side of the pump [ 4 lbs ] Ok as it runs fine , I think needle and seat . So I let it run at 3000 rpm for about 5 minutes , no problem . I take it for a ride and get about 1 mile and it dies , had to get towed home . No fuel coming out of pump . I pull the filter of the bottom of the pump [empty ] Now the flat o ring wont go back on it has become to big to fit [ like magic ] more ethanol on rubber crap . Finally I pull rubber fitted line that goes between the pump and the tank line . It is plugged , I can run a wire through it but when you try to put air through it, it plugs back up , I think the inside of the line is eaten up . Lets put more ethanol in the gas .

Ethanol, inefficient to make; inefficient to use; hard on cars, especially older ones; and required by law in Missouri to have at least 10%
Plus, if it gained traction like some people really wanted, it would have put a strain on our food supply. sigh....I think we are full speed without brakes at this point.
So, does that mean you need to sell your truck for scrap value now?
LOL, and from what I see worth every penny. You would think the guy you showed it to could figure that out. But, if they are new to old trucks, they might not realize these things take constant love and attention....and real gas would help too.
Aside from this country down the toilet, govt. they just don't get it, they stick
their nose in everything. I'm not talking about just the vehicals on this forum,
I'm talking about everything else from compactors to lawnmowers farm
equipment and every thing else. Such as snow plowing = F350 30 miles
one tank of this junk. Due to the blizzard this week we & town trucks
paralyzed due to poor mileage and nobody open. Myself every thing here
is carbruated- we go thru acc. pump diaphrams on 4bb Hollys like water.
Seems we are getting forced to buy new. (can't be done for me) and then
that dispicable sick cash for clunkers? The retired fixed income would give
their eye teeth for like a sweet town car them idiots destroyed. I directly
blame this on brain dead govt. for the job loss, industry down the tube due
to smokestack haters. I go now, my bloods already boiling..
I have spoken
I have to disagree when it comes to blaming the government for the problems of this country . The real problem is the citizens , They elect the government , and they tell the government what to do . When someone is elected they are there to represent the people . So if a leader gets 100 letters or e-mails saying save that tree and 1 saying cut it down , then he should vote to save it . This country has one of the lowest voter turn outs in the world . How many people that complain about government , have ever attended a government meeting or volunteered to be on a panel? How many ever run for office ? How many complain about a bill or law before it is passed ? We all complain about taxes , but we all expect Government to supplies us with everything from A_Z . Do we really need lighted high school football fields for the 8-10 games a year ? Or busses to take seniors to casinos , Do we need to provide for the lazy , drunk , and drug crowed ? I could go on and on , but what it comes down to is the ones that make the most noise get what they want . If every person that complains about the government got involved things would change . Take the time to go to a local government meeting, and count how many citizens are there , compared to the number that live in that area , and you will see what I am talking about .
Back to Ethanol...the crap I took out of my 89 wagon tank won't even burn.
If the Feds say we need ethanol...why are more and more gas stations providing ethanol-free gas?? At a higher price of course.
I have written to a few of our "elected officials" about different subjects and usually the response "it's a done deal--live with it"
Iown a lawn care company.....ethanol is the bane of my existance. leave it in a trimmer for a week and the carb is plugged. replace all rubber lines on my mowers with silcone fuel line...watch kawi 4fb carbs eat seals like clockwork.....i useenough fuel that it usually doesnot go bad but i tell mycrew to NOT fill the jugs..add only what you will use in 4 days. let it sit for 2 weeks and hard starts, fouled plugs and plugged carb.

Around this part of the country, the name brand stations ,Shell, Chevron, still sell straight gas. I very rarely ever use ethanol. I don't mind the extra few penny's a gallon. Now my Mom uses the cheapest gas you she can find, yep ethanol, and has never had a problem. I don't know, don't claim to, but will continue to use the best gas I can find for my baby.
