so i am restoring a 1996 f150 xlt reg cab long box putting 4 in lift in and want more power out of engine. i was wonding about a gt40 lightning upper and lower intake swap? i would like to run different heads and a decent cam but dont wanna empty my wallet any suggestions on what i shld go with?
you can upgrade just some parts to get more power, search the 87-96 forum for gt40 heads. In posts that talk about those heads you should also find mention of cams. If you use what's recommended you can just install those and go. That sounds like it'll get you the power you want. If you wanted more than that, you'd need to start looking at tuners and if you need to swap out the computer, etc.
The Lightning lower intake won't fit your 5.0 but even if it did it's a bit of a downgrade from the 5.0 truck intake which is already a bit oversized for the motor. GT40 heads would help make more power with a HO cam upgrade but all that extra power will be at higher rpms so if you add a lift with bigger tires the truck will need a big gearing upgrade as well.

I don't see where the poster ever said what size engine he had in his PU?
So if he has a 5.8L he will be OK, but if a 5.0L you are as always correct.
LOL!

I know this isnt what your looking for but an electric fan conversion helps a lot. Youl free up a decent amount of horsepower and theres a night and day difference in mileage on highway

I disagree. Adding fans means you also need an alternator that can supply power to them (my 2 fans take 24 amps each) and for that you need an alternator that will take more horsepower from the motor to make electricity for the fans. There isn't a huge benefit to electric fans.

Depends on the fan you get. Mines an 18 amp single fan and blows plenty of air to keep my truck cool. Sure you can go dual 16's and get 6000 cfm with a 36amp draw but thats overkill on a half ton pickup. Mine blows 3300 cfm and havent had the temp go past normal yet
