Ok so I got my 54 truck running and was going to change the crank case canister under the truck and was putting last bolt in and it fell inside oil pan. I got a flexible long magnet and tried to fish out thru hole where canister bolts to no avail. Does any one else have any ideas I sure hate to pull pan off since everything is sealed up good and not leaking. Drained oil and was going to try to go in straight but could not get past the oil sump screen. Feeling pretty stupid right now.
It isn't going anywhere, its not going to get sucked up or anything, and after driving around it just might end up at the drain hole for the next oil change

Maybe you can stick one of those super strong magnets by the drain hole to increase your chances that it'll be there for the next oil change?
This may sound odd, but have you considered putting a piece of chewing gum on the magnet rod? Worked for me one time trying to fish a screw out of small hole in a blasting machine One time.
Or get a super strong magnet on the outside of the pan and see if you can locate it and move the magnet to the drain hole. Kinda like putting a magnet under the table and move the quarter on top of the table with the magnet.
I don't think it will make it to the drain hole. If he has the light duty truck oil pan the clearance between the pan and the baffle is small Need Some Skoolin in Oil Pans on the "Y"s
The light duty pan is the middle pan in the pics <o></o>
