'73 Old Yellow

Picked up a project to work on. I had been telling my wife that I wanted an old truck. She said a friend of hers had one she wanted to get rid of for $650. Pictures were sent and I was on my way to pick it up. This was it when I got it home.

1973 F100 long bed 302 c4

I was pleasantly surprised... real straight solid old truck. Not much rust. It came from central Texas and has been repainted a more school bus yellow than the factory yellow. Had been sitting for three years and engine was seized. Thanks to info on here she broke free after about four days of cylinders sitting in marvel mystery oil. Fired it up and smoked like a train. Cleaned her up and have been going through and fixing issues. This is it today.

These things are like women take all your time and money. I'll post as the progress grinds on..

The help from this site is awesome and invaluable.

Has a few pin holes in floor pan but not bad at all. I cleaned it up and put primer on it until I can do a better job when I remove and replace the liner.

PO had a plastic bedliner in it and you know what happens to them...... and it did. I'm trying to save what I can. The middle is gone but sides are pretty solid.

Nice truck! Looks like the bed X members are OK... need new floor. No biggie. Re-pop or donor.

I approve, it was a deal. Don't you love it when the wife enables your truck habit?

Great deal! Glad you found it! If you decide to replace just the front bed floor with aftermarket replacements,I found the spacing of the ridges are different that the factory spaced ridges. The contours line up for a few ridges then you start to be off a bit (or a lot) by the time you get to the other side.I guess my point would be that cutting out the front section and adding in new aftermarket sections is a pain and a LOT of work on your hands and knees! Next time around I would save my pennies and replace the whole darn floor bottom! My shortbed had only pinholes in the very front, the rest rust free,so replaced about 12" x the whole bed width. Again, good find! Gary

Very nice truck to start with. Looks like a bed floor replacement and some cleanup and you'll have a cherry truck.

Looks like a straight nice start. Is that a bullet hole in drivers door?

No bullet hole gator. Dent about the size of a nickel. Picked up some used tires today off craigslist today. The ones that were on it were dry rotted pretty bad. Gonna clean up the rusted chrome wheels and put the tires on. Headers and dual exhaust are next.

Since broke the seized motor free have you done a compression test? Just curious how much it effected the condition of the engine.
