Well fellas, I decided to change out my steering gear (originally just the drag link, then the tie rods and sleeve as well. They were all shot.) When I went to remove the drag link from the pitman arm, it came off but the stud stayed in the pitman arm. I tried the separator fork, I heated the pitman arm with a torch, I beat on it with a hammer....That stud will NOT move! Any thoughts on fixing this dilemma, short of poking a hole in the gas tank and starting a fire underneath it? I've been at this for days and its driving me nuts. (I'd also like to avoid putting in a new pitman arm if possible.)
No the pitman arm isn't stuck on the shaft. The stud from the drag link is stuck in the pitman arm (on the end that isn't attached to the steering box). I'll try and get a picture tomorrow. If I can't get the stud out with a gear puller tomorrow, I'll pull the pitman arm off and take it in to school and have it pressed out.
