Any help is appreciated. I cannot get the drag link-pitman arm ball joint to separate. Have tried the forks with hammer. No Luck. Tried 2 types of tie rod pullers. No Luck. Bent the bolt on the puller and the other puller arms spread when the pressure is applied and slips off. Never have I had one this tough. Any suggestions. Maybe a torch to heat arm in hopes of expanding arm.

I am trying to remove power steering gear. I have to remove Pit arm from it but cannot get puller on pit arm to steering gear sector shaft. The frame motor mounts sit on is in the way. So I decided to remove pitman arm at draglink and drop steering gear with pit arm attached to steering gear, then remove arm from steering gear on the bench where I can access it. The puller for the pit arm to steering gear connection is bigger than the tie rod/ ball joint type puller for the drag link ball joint to pitman arm connection. Talked to a couple old goodyear mechanics today. One said get a bigger hammer and the other suggested trying unbolting steering gear from frame and moving it enough to get clearance for the pitman arm puller to have space to work. I will try those suggestions tonite and any others that yall can come up with. Otherwise I am going to get out the sawzall and some good metal blades. I was hoping I would'nt have to ruin my drag link and pitman arm, but it is wearing on my patience.

Used that same puller and it did'nt work. Finally decided to remove drag link from connecting link ball joint and from pass. side tie rod end. Then I was able to drop steering gear with pitman arm and drag link still attached. Once out I removed pitman arm from steering gear. Talk about on there. The bolt for the puller takes a 3/4" wrench (leverage) which is way less than it should be. Major pain! It came off after beating the wrench with a small sledge. The drag link and other end of arm was then mounted in a vice and with the fork and the small sledge she popped loose. Finally!
New steering gear is now in and working fine. Will get alignment checked this week. Thanks for the advice on a bigger hammer. Getting it out where I could get a good swing (Jackstands) also helped.
