I'm having issues removing the pitman arm from the steering gear from my '93 f-250 4x4. I've pulled the steering gear from the truck already because it is getting replaced, but I can't get the pitman arm off of it. I tried a puller, a pickle fork, kroil, and pb blaster. My question is if I put a torch on the pitman arm to help break it free, is it going to ruin/weaken it?
A good puller wound up tight and then a good hard hammer blow on the puller bolt head usually works.
However if all else fails then use heat, it should not damage the arm.
Lazy K is right, tighten up the puller and hit the pitman arm on the side a couple of whacks, then retighten. Repeat this a few times and it will come off I bet.
