I accidentally posted my questions about the following '53 truck over on the '57-'60 forum; those guys were nice enough to answer most of them, but suggested I post the remaining ones over here.
My co-worker has a '53 Ford truck (see pics) that he is going to start work on.
First question: He seems to think it's an F-350, but the guys over on the '57-'60 forum suggest that based on the front hub size it's actually probably a larger truck (F-500?) Would that be correct from looking at the pics? The truck is missing a VIN tag, unfortunately.
Secondly, in addition to needing other glass for the truck, he is going to need a windshield for it also. Do windshield for the '48-'56' trucks all interchange, or will he need to look for a windshield from a particular model designation?
Finally, is the VIN stamped elsewhere on the body, like, say, on the frame? I know with the '67-'72 trucks (like I own) the VIN is also stamped on the top of the passenger side frame rail (or so I have read.)
That truck appears to be what is left of a larger truck, larger than F350, probably an F500.
I believe a windshield from a '53 through 55 will fit.
You will probably find the ID numbers in the location you mention.
Now, Unless your friend is a glutton for punishment, has some sentimental attachment to that specific truck, he would be much better off picking up a complete truck to play with. Decent, running trucks that size can be had for what he will have in replacement parts.
JMHO, but that one looks pretty much a parts truck.
Keith, I sent you a PM or an email about the wheels last week. I'm in Akron Ohio.
Yes the windshield is the same as the f100 and up for the 53 54 55 trucks. The truck pictured is a F500 or F600 as both in 53-55 used 5 lug wheels.
I hate to be harsh but I think your buddy needs another truck! I part out nicer rigs than that one
Yes, I received the message about the set of wheels for sale last week and forwarded it to my co-worker.
And yes, those are bullet holes on the truck - lol. The truck has no sentimental attachment to him - it was simply found abandoned on his property up north. I'm in agreement with you guys and told him that it's too far gone, in my opinion, to be anything more than a parts truck. But you know how some people like to be separated from their money...
Anyway, thanks for the info. I learned something new about these trucks and that's a bonus for me.
