That's just what I do, yes. (Personal preference) TP is a much nicer tool, however locally, I don't want to deal with removing my tablet from the windshield everytime I stop, or risk forgetting to remove it from the windshield and entice someone to break in. I just leave the Scanguage in the cubby hole all the time.
I use the Torque Pro on my phone. It seems to give me all the information I want to set it up to show. Yes it does read and clear codes as well. I don't know if there is any difference seeing as I am a gasser though.
1. Go to walmart and buy a cheap prepaid android phone
2. Go to Amazon and buy a cheap ELM27 BT adapter
3. Install Torque on the phone
4. Install Tasker on the phone so you can make it automatically fire up and load the app when you start the vehicle and go to sleep when you turn it off.
$60-$70 and you can install a slew of diagnostic apps on it. Mount it somewhere inconspicuous.
I actually bought the obd2 bluetooth dongle for the TP but in the end I didn't feel like dorking around with it b/c I don't have a smart phone so I got the SG2. For me, I wanted EGT and the car just doesn't provide it (I jgot my egt probe and meter today). I like the SG2 b/c it's just so easy to plug it in and go. I would like to find a mount so if you guys have some pictures of yours I'd love to see it.
