I recently had my power steering pump and gear box both replaced and im having a real issue. The pump is leaking, and having a horrible squeeling noise. It has also destroyed 1/4 of the belt too... What seems to be the problem is that the pully seems to be at a slightly different angle than the belt is coming in at so the pully is eating away the belt. why would this happen, bad pump? It is a cheapie from oreilys, so i was going to buy a ford one bec i know it is reliable. Please any imput because i dont wanna end up slipping my belt going down the road!
Whoever did the work should use the correct puller / installer tool, and should drive the pulley onto the shaft just the right distance, so it lines up with the other pulleys. If they didn't do that, and you paid for the work, they should make it right.
Is it too far forward right now, or too far aft? Is it not in the same "plane" as the other pulleys?
This - Pulley Remover and Installer Set - albeit a cheap rendition, is the kind of tool that will allow you to remove the pulley from the shaft, and to install it on the shaft in just the right position.
Does anyone think that the miss alignment has any negative effect on the pump itself?? I'm just making sure I'm thorough so I don't waste money on a pump!!
