Some Ford tucks came with 3.00 or 2.75 gears and tires around 29 inches tall.
It would seem my speedo is to far off to be just a rear gear change.
ND: I have a 1964 F100 292/COM, 3.10 rear gear, L78 bias tires (29.3in).

Another option is to change the driving gear, which is usually ground into the output shaft.
Which means removing the transmission to disassemble it, and replace the output shaft as part of the reassembly.
One more option would be to change the rear axle ratio, which is easy enough to do if you can find a third member with the necessary ratio. In this case, though, the required ratio would increase RPMs at equivalent speeds.

I have done some more research.
It seems the speedo needle is not driven off the cable, but has an induction pickup.
My problem may be that the assembly is dirty and the needle is hanging up.
I need to remove the cluster anyway to install the gasket around the bezel, so I will check that out.
